Procedure Character:
During the procedure, a prescribed amount of carbon dioxide gas is injected subcutaneously into the client's skin. This procedure causes increased tissue perfusion, relaxation of muscle tension, reduction of pain sensitivity, and affects reflex zones.
Procedure Process:
The client undresses and sits on a chair, or remains standing (as needed). The nurse administers the prescribed amount of CO2 gas to acupuncture points predetermined by the doctor. The application sites may vary, but most commonly, the gas is applied to the back area. During the application, the client may feel mild pricking followed by an indistinct sensation - from slight pressure to cold or warmth. However, these sensations quickly dissipate.
Main Indications:
Degenerative joint and spine diseases with painful syndrome.
Main Contraindications:
Local skin and subcutaneous inflammations at the application site, blood clotting disorders.
